2014 Wooden Boat Festival

Before you see the BBC movie – hear the story of the boats themselves. Ben Kahn was the lead boat builder/carpenter for this epic adventure. Ben and eight NW School of Wooden Boatbuilding students set out to build the two large Whitehall “Powell Boats” for the BBC, eight months before the expedition.( Two boats, with a combined length of 42 feet and combined beam of 10 feet.) They needed to be Whitehall’s built strong like fish boats…and the finished boats performed well under exceptionally challenging conditions!
